II. Installation


      UFS Explorer Standard Recovery – version 4.7-CI has trial version mode allowing you to test performance capabilities of this software application before you purchase the software itself. The trial version, however, has limited functionality – you can recover only files with size below 64KB.

      Microsoft Windows Installation

      To install UFS Explorer Standard Recovery version 4.7-CI your system must have the following requirements:

        • Microsoft Windows 2000/ 2003/XP/ Vista/Windows 7 operating system
        • Pentium class processor or compatible
        • 256 MB of shared RAM (at least 1GB is recommended)
        • Below 12 MB of free space available on hard disk (Required for program files installation)
        • Default internet browser

      You may download UFS Explorer Standard Recovery - version 4 installation package from the product web site (http://www.ufsexplorer.com/download_stdr.php, the direct download link is: http://www.ufsexplorer.com/download/ufsxsr4.exe The specialized Raise Data Recovery products could be found at http://www.ufsexplorer.com/rdr_index.php

      Installation starts with choice of basic language – program installation language and user interface language.

      “Wizard-based” installer provides for an easy step-by-step software installation.



        Warning: The installer will suggest you to install the software to C partition. If your files were lost from C partition Press Browse to choose a different destination for software installation. Installation of the software to the same partition may result in overwriting of your data and cause their permanent damage and loss.


      After installation is completed you may proceed to work with the software.



      Apple MacOS Installation

      To install UFS Explorer Standard Recovery version 4.7-CI your system must have the following requirements:

        • Apple MacOS X operating system version 10.5 and later;
        • Intel i386-compatible processor
        • 256 MB of shared RAM (at least 1GB is recommended)
        • Below 12 MB of free space available on hard disk (Required for program files installation)
        • Default web browser

      UFS Explorer Standard Recovery version 4.7-CI installation steps:

      • Download the .dmg package from the software web site: http://www.ufsexplorer.com/download.php
      • Open the package with default disk mount utility;
      • You may run the software:
        • Directly from mounted .dmg file;
        • Copy it to local "Applications" folder and run it from there;


        Important: Download the software package to removable storage in case data was lost from system disk partition.


        Note: When you start the software, it will ask for Administrator authorization. The authorization is optional and is only required to access local fixed disk drive(s).




      Linux/BSD Installation

      To install UFS Explorer Standard Recovery version 4.7-CI your system must have the following requirements:

        • Linux operating system with 2.6.x kernel;
        • FreeBSD version 7 and later or its clones;
        • GLIBC2.6, POSIX threads, X Windows system, libstdc++6 packages availble;
        • Recommended gksu package;
        • Pentium class processor or compatible
        • 256 MB of shared RAM (at least 1GB is recommended)
        • Below 10 MB of free space available on hard disk (Required for program files installation)
        • Default web browser


      UFS Explorer Standard Recovery version 4.7-CI installation steps:

      • Native software package:
        (Available for latest Linux Debian, Ubuntu, Mint etc.)
        • Download the .deb package for a specific platform from the software web site: http://www.ufsexplorer.com/download.php
        • Open the package with native package manager and process with installation;
      • Automated installer:
        • Download the .bundle software package for a specific platform from the web site: http://www.ufsexplorer.com/download.php
        • Set 'execute' permission to the file:
          • - from GUI: click 'Properties' and select 'Permissions' tab. Set 'Allow executing file as program' option;
          • - from command line: change current folder to the folder with file and type chmod +x ./ufsxsci*.bundle.
        • Run software installation as root;
          • - from GUI: press 'Alt+F2' (Run Application), type gksu and full path to .bundle file;
          • - from command line: in session noticed above type sudo -E ./ufsxsci*.bundle.
      • Binary distribution:
        • Download the .tar.gz software package for specific platform from the web site: http://www.ufsexplorer.com/download.php
        • Unpack the package to temporary folder;
        • Open terminal, change current folder to 'ufsxsci-other' folder;
        • Run installation by typing 'sudo install';


      After installation you may launch the software from command line by typing ufsxsci command or from Window Manager main menu (if applicable; it is available under 'System Tools' menu group).

        Note: Default system security policy will probably prohibit software access to local disk drives and removable storage devices. In case storage device does not appear in software, restart it with local administrator privileges by typing in command line:

        • sudo -E ufsxsci - if your user account is granted to run application as 'root' through sudoers configuration;
        • su root -c ufsxsci - if your user account is not privileged and you can switch to 'root'.
